Circuit Test
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter between ground and instrument cluster harness-side connector terminal No. 36 (Yellow/White wire). Move vehicle forward and backward. If voltmeter reads 4.5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage reading is not as specified, go to step 3).
- Connect voltmeter between ground and instrument cluster harness-side connector terminal No. 10 (Black/White wire). Turn ignition on. If battery voltage is present, replace speedometer assembly. If battery voltage is not present, check fuse 8, and harness connectors to instrument cluster. Repair as necessary. If connectors and fuse are okay, check circuit between power supply and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
- Check signal generator. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR test or INPUT/OUTPUT SENSOR test under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace as necessary. If sensor is okay, check harness connectors to instrument cluster. Repair as necessary. If connectors are okay, check circuit between power supply and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
