Instrument Cluster Dim Input Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument panel connector C2. Put headlight switch in PARK or HEAD position. Put dimmer switch in LO position. Measure voltage between instrument cluster connector C2, terminal E4 (Yellow wire) and ground. If battery voltage is not present, check Yellow wire for an open or short circuit.
  2. If battery voltage is present, measure voltage between instrument cluster connector C2, terminal E1 (Gray wire) and ground while adjusting dimmer control. If voltage varies with dimmer control, check connector C2 for good contact at terminals E4 and E1 and repair as necessary. If terminal contact is okay, replace instrument cluster.
  3. If voltage does not vary with dimmer control, check Gray wire for open circuit, high resistance, or short to ground. Check headlight switch connector for good terminal contact and repair as necessary. If circuits are okay, replace headlight switch.
