Tachometer Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Ignition Control Module (ICM) connector. Plug Instrument Panel Tester (J 33431) into a wall outlet. Connect Harness Adapter (J-33431-10) to tester. Connect adapter Black wire to ground. Connect adapter Red wire to Ignition Control Module (ICM) connector terminal "E" (White wire). Set tester to 54 mph (60 Hz), and turn power switch on. Turn ignition on. If tachometer reads about 1350 RPM, check ICM connector for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace ICM.
  2. If tachometer does not read 1350 RPM, check White wire for an open circuit or short to ground. Check all connectors and instrument cluster connector for good terminal contact. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
