Exhaust Emissions System - EVAP: Operation
When the engine is stopped, fuel vapors from the tank are directed to charcoal canister through hoses and calibrated jet. On station wagons, fuel flows through the vapor/liquid separator where liquid is separated from vapor and returned to the fuel tank.
When the engine is running, engine vacuum draws an amount of air volume which is proportional to air coming from air filter. This air which is filtered at the canister inlet, picks up stored fuel vapors and then the air/fuel mixture flows to the engine to be burned.
