Cooling Fan Control
The electric cooling fan is controlled by the SMEC. Engine coolant temperature is sensed by the CTS. The CTS sends this data to the SMEC which in turn energizes the cooling fan relay.
The cooling fan is operated in the following manner:
- The fan will not run during engine cranking regardless of coolant temperature.
- The fan is engerized at all times when A/C clutch is engaged.
- On vehicles without A/C or when A/C clutch is not energized, fan is energized at vehicle speed greater than 40 MPH, only if coolant temperature is 230°F (110°C) or greater, and de-engerized when coolant temperature to less than below 220°F (104°C). At vehicle speeds less than 40 MPH, the fan turns on at 210°F (99°C) and turns off at 200°F (93°C).
