Idle Speed Control

Idle speed is controlled by the SMEC through the Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) motor. The AIS is mounted on the throttle body. The SMEC uses TPS sensor, CTS sensor, speed sensor, neutral safety switch, and brake switch to adjust engine idle to an optimum setting for any engine condition.

The AIS adjusts the air portion of the mixture by varying an air by-pass to increase or decrease airflow. During sudden deceleration, engine stall is prevented by increasing airflow through the air by-pass. This is an automatic function of the SMEC.
