Self-Diagnostic System: Notes

Allied Signal/Bendix ABX-4 Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is controlled and monitored by Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB). In addition to controlling ABS, CAB has several useful diagnostic capabilities.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are stored in memory until erased by a technician using scan tool or until erased automatically after 50 ignition cycles. Only DTC which cannot be erased after 50 ignition cycles is a CAB DTC. CAB DTC can only be erased by using scan tool.

More than one DTC can be stored at a time. Number of DTCs stored is displayed by scan tool. Number of ignition cycles since most recent DTC was stored is also displayed.

Using scan tool, most functions of CAB and ABS system can be accessed by technician for testing and diagnostic purposes.
