Tachometer Test
- On 3.8L engine, disconnect electronic ignition control module 14-pin connector. On 5.7L engine, disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector "A". Connect Instrument Panel Harness (J 33431) and Harness (J 33431-10) to connector "E" and ground on electronic ignition control module connector (3.8L), or connector "A", terminal No. 13 of PCM connector and ground (5.7L).
- Set tester to 54 MPH. Turn ignition on, engine off. If tachometer indicates about 1200 RPM (3.8L) or 900 RPM (5.7L), check for loose connection at ignition control module or PCM. If connection is okay, replace ignition control module or PCM as necessary.
- If tachometer does not indicate about 1200 RPM (3.8L) or 900 RPM (5.7L), check for an open circuit, short to ground, or short to voltage in White tachometer wire. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster.
