Preliminary Inspection
Verify customer complaint by operating suspected system. Check system fuses. Check battery state of charge. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Verify ground point connections at left and right sides of rear package shelf are clean and tight. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected.
Attempt to use second transmitter, if available. If second transmitter works, change batteries in first transmitter and retry. Ensure battery is installed with positive side facing down. Transmitter terminals should be clean and make proper contact with battery. If battery condition is in doubt, replace batteries. Measuring battery voltage may give false readings. If transmitter still does not work, attempt reprogramming. See PROGRAMMING . Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If no fault is found, perform remote keyless entry diagnostic systems test. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
