Powertrain Control Module: Notes

WARNING: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
NOTE: In order to prevent internal damage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the ignition must be OFF when disconnecting or reconnecting the PCM connector. Service should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM or Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) re-programming. If the diagnostic procedures call for the PCM to be replaced, the PCM should be inspected first in order to verify the PCM is the correct part.
