Steering Column Assembly: Assembly

1. Install ball bearing against circlip at steering column lower end, and seat bottom circlip against bearing. Circlip must seat in recessed groove.
2. Place contact ring and upper bearing together on steering shaft. Using a pipe, drive bearing into place on shaft. Pipe should contact inner race only. To complete assembly, reverse disassembly procedure.

Press in upper steering shaft bearing with Pressure Pad (VW 433). Bearing collar should face column opening for switch. Lubricate column tube inside. Center bearing sleeve (if installed), and insert steering shaft into tube from below. To complete assembly, reverse disassembly procedure.
