Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

Bosch 5 (fifth generation) Anti-lock Brake System (ABS5) can be optionally equipped with an Automatic Brake Differential (ABD) control system. ABS5 is a 3-channel system.

In addition to the base brake system, ABS5 consists of a hydraulic unit with 3 output lines, one proportioning valve, solenoids, return pump, one 60-amp maxifuse to protect solenoids and return pump, solenoids and return pump relays, 4 wheel speed sensors, a central informer (located on steering column), brakelights, brakelight switch, ABS5 warning light and necessary wiring. See Fig 1 -3. The ABS5 control unit is identified by a sticker with a Black border.

ABS5/ABD is a 4-channel system. In addition to the components listed for ABS5, ABS5/ABD includes one additional hydraulic unit output line, one additional proportioning valve, one additional 60-amp maxifuse to protect DME, ABD warning lamp, ABD operation warning lamp and Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control unit. The ABS5/ABD control unit is identified by a sticker with a Red border.
