INFORMATION
If replacement of the Engine Control Module (ECM) becomes necessary, the new unit must be coded. It will be necessary to obtain the ECM (DME) programming code and the immobilizer (drive block) code from Porsche Cars North America prior to installation of a new ECM. Coding is performed using the Porsche System Tester 2. Proceed as follows:
Obtain the ECM (DME) programming code and the immobilizer (drive block) code from PCNA. Complete the code request form (Technical Bulletin, Boxster bulletin group 9, number 9701 and fax to: (702) 348-3777.
PROCEDURE - REPLACING ECM
- Connect the Porsche System tester 2 and switch on.
- Select vehicle type "Boxster" and begin the control module search sequence.
- Select "DME Control Unit".
- Select "Control Unit Programming".
- Select "Read Out Control Unit".
- Install the new ECM.
- Select "Program Control Unit".NOTE: During the programming process, all electrical consumers MUST be switched off. Manually switch the heater/A/C system to the "off" position. Be certain the vehicle battery is fully charged. Press enter to continue.
- Enter the 6 digit DME programming code (obtained from PCNA).

- Enter the 6 digit DME programming code (obtained from PCNA) again.
- Confirm the correct code entry and press F7.CAUTION: Be certain to ENTER THE CORRECT CODE. Once the control unit is coded, the code cannot be changed.
- Enter 16 zeros for the old immobilizer code and confirm by pressing F7.
- Enter the 16 digit immobilizer code (obtained from PCNA) and confirm by pressing F7.CAUTION: Be certain to enter the correct code. Once the control unit is coded, the code cannot be changed.
- Select data record "OBD II Control Module" and press enter.
- After confirmation, the programming will run.
- After the programming is complete, switch off the ignition.
- Switch on the ignition.
- Switch off the PST2 tester.
NOTE:
After programming the ECM, a fault code, DTC 108, will be stored in the ECM memory. Also, if the vehicle is equipped with a Tiptronic transmission, a fault code DTC 100 "CAN - Timeout" will be stored in the Tiptronic control unit memory. These faults occur as a result of programming the ECM and should be erased.
