Negative Rectifier Diodes

  1. Connect positive terminal of ohmmeter or a self-powered test light (40-volt maximum) to generator D- terminal. Measure resistance or continuity between terminal D- and each diode stator terminal, one at a time, with stator leads disconnected. See Figure. Test light should glow or ohmmeter should indicate low resistance when negative terminal of test light or ohmmeter is connected to each diode terminal.
  2. Reverse ohmmeter or test light connections, and repeat each measurement. Test light should not glow or ohmmeter should indicate high resistance. Replace rectifier assembly if any diode is defective.
