Instrument Panel Sub-ASSY Lower: Replacement

HINT:

• COMPONENTS: See INSTRUMENT PANEL/METER  .
• Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

   NOTE: When disconnecting the battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the terminal is reconnected.

2. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

   HINT:

   All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel along with their alphabet codes are shown in Fig 1 .

3. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (See  PRECAUTION  ) 
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER   ) 
5. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
   1. SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)
7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
8. REMOVE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY (See  HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY  ) 
9. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY (See  WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY  ) 
10. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disengage the 7 claws, and remove the console upper rear panel sub-assy.

11. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY RR 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the console box carpet.

    3. Manual transaxle:

       Remove the 2 screws < I >.

    4. Automatic transaxle:

       Remove the 4 screws < I >.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts < H >.
    6. Remove the clamp, and console box assy RR.

12. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSY LOWER NO.1 (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
13. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO.1 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws.
    2. Remove the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.1, as shown in Fig 5 .

14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH 
    1. Disengage the 12 claws, then remove the front door scuff plate LH.

15. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Remove the clip.
    2. Remove the 2 clips, and the cowl side trim sub-assy LH.

17. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

18. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.2 
    1. Remove the 3 clips, and heater to register duct No.2.

19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the hood lock control cable.
    2. Remove the 3 screws < B > or < C >, 2 bolts < F > or < G >, and 2 nuts < J >.
    3. Remove the 2 clips.
    4. Disengage the 7 wire harness clamps.
    5. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
    6. Pull the instrument panel lower assy toward the rear of the vehicle, and check that the wire harnesses are not caught, and then remove the instrument panel lower assy.

20. REMOVE FUSE BOX OPENING COVER 
21. REMOVE OUTER MIRROR SWITCH ASSY W/BEZEL 
22. REMOVE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING RESET SWITCH 
23. REMOVE INDICATOR LAMP ASSY 
24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER 
25. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSY LOWER NO.1 (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
26. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY (See  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER   ) 
27. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
28. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
29. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
30. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
31. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (See  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
