Fuel System: Precaution

  1. BEFORE WORKING ON FUEL SYSTEM 
    1. Do not work near an open flame.
    2. Keep gasoline away from rubber and leather parts.
    3. Discharge the fuel pressure before disconnecting the fuel line to prevent gasoline slipping out. Refer to the following procedure.
  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 
    NOTE: DTC P0171 lean fuel trim may be present. Clear DTCs after the repair.
    1. Remove the rear seat cushion and rear floor service hole cover.
    2. Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
    3. Allow the engine to idle until the engine stops.
    4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    5. Remove the fuel cap to release the fuel tank pressure.
    6. Connect the fuel pump connector.
    7. Install the rear floor service hole cover and rear seat cushion.

  3. DISCONNECT FUEL MAIN TUBE 
    NOTE: Do not forcibly bend and twist the fuel main tube.
    1. Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
    2. Wipe off dirt on the fuel tube connector.
    3. Hold the fuel tube connector, and then install the SST.

      SST 09268-21010 

    4. Turn the SST to align the retainer inside the fuel tube connector with the chamfered part of the SST.

    5. Insert the SST into the fuel tube and hold it. Then push the fuel tube connector toward the SST side.
    6. Mount the retainer of the fuel tube connector onto the chamfered part of the SST.
    7. Slide the SST and fuel tube connector together towards the fuel tube until they make a click sound, and then disconnect the fuel tube.
    8. Drain the fuel remaining inside the fuel tube.
    9. Cover the fuel tube and fuel pipe with a plastic bag to protect the disconnected part.

  4. CONNECT FUEL MAIN TUBE 
    1. Connect the fuel main tube.
    2. Push the fuel tube connector until it makes a click sound.
    3. Install the fuel pipe clamp.
    4. Install the fuel tube into the fuel hose clamp.
  5. DISCONNECT FUEL TUBE CONNECTOR A TYPE 
    1. Wipe off dirt on the fuel tube connector.
    2. Pinch the fuel tube connector, and then disconnect the fuel tube. DO not use any tools.
    3. Drain the fuel remaining inside the fuel tube.
    4. Cover the fuel tube and fuel pipe with a plastic bag to protect the disconnected part.

  6. CONNECT FUEL TUBE CONNECTOR A TYPE 
    1. Connect the fuel tube connector to the fuel pipe.
    2. Push the fuel connector until it makes a click sound.

      HINT:

      If it is difficult to connect the fuel tube connector, apply a small amount of new engine oil on the tip of the pipe.

  7. DISCONNECT FUEL TUBE CONNECTOR B TYPE 
    1. Wipe off dirt on the fuel tube connector.
    2. Detach the 2 claws of the connector retainer, and then disconnect the fuel tube. DO not use any tools.
    3. Drain the fuel remaining inside the fuel tube.
    4. Cover the fuel tube and fuel pipe with a plastic bag to protect the disconnected part.
