Transmission Control Cable Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the transmission control cable assembly into the control shaft lever with the nut.

      Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Fix the transmission control cable assembly onto the transmission control cable bracket with a new clip.

    3. Install the transmission control cable assembly with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf)

    4. Install the transmission control cable assembly onto the rear engine mounting insulator with the bolt.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf)

    5. Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the transmission control cable support.

    6. Rotate the transmission control cable nut counterclockwise approximately 180° and, while holding the nut in that position, press in the stopper until it makes 2 "click" sounds.

    7. Push the lock piece up from the back side of the adjuster case while pinching the claws on the lock piece.

    8. Install the outer cable of the transmission control cable onto the shift lever retainer, check that the position of the spring is the same as A shown in the illustration, and press in the stopper.

      HINT:

      If the stopper cannot be pressed in, slightly rotate the nut clockwise and then press in the stopper.

    9. Connect the control cable to the shift lever.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure the cable is installed onto the base of the pin.
      • Check that the lock piece is pulled up.

    10. Connect the 2 connectors.

  2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION  (See INSTALLATION  )
  3. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  )
  4. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the front upper No. 1 floor heat insulator with the 3 nuts.

      Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf)

  5. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.

      Minimum length: 

      38.5 mm (1.516 in.) 

      If the length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

    2. Using a plastic hammer and a wooden block, tap in a new exhaust pipe gasket until its surface is flush with the center exhaust pipe assembly and No. 2 center exhaust pipe assembly.

      CAUTION:
      • Install the exhaust pipe gasket in the correct direction.
      • Do not damage the outer surface of the exhaust pipe gasket.
      • Do not reuse the exhaust pipe gasket.
      • Do not push in the gasket with the exhaust pipe when connecting it.
    3. Install the exhaust pipe support, then install the center exhaust pipe assembly.

    4. Install the center exhaust pipe assembly onto the No. 2 center exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

      Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)

    5. Install the center exhaust pipe assembly onto the front exhaust pipe assembly with a new gasket and 2 bolts.

      Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)

  6. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION  )

  8. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  9. INSTALL NO. 2 BATTERY CARRIER  (See INSTALLATION  )
  10. INSTALL BATTERY  (See INSTALLATION )
  11. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL  (See INSTALLATION )
  12. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See INSTALLATION )
  13. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX INSERT  (See INSTALLATION )
  14. INSTALL CENTER LOWER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL  (See INSTALLATION )
  15. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
