Air Suction Valve
- Ensure vacuum hose connections are secure and hoses are not cracked, poorly routed or plugged. Bring engine to operating temperature (cooling fan comes on). Turn engine off.
- Start engine. Using a stethoscope, listen to air suction valve with engine at idle. A suction noise should be heard within 20 seconds after engine start and cease within 30 seconds after engine start.
- If no suction noise present, replace air suction valve and repeat test. If suction still not present, proceed to next step. If suction does not cease, Attach Fast Check Tester and check system. Check solenoid by listening for audible clicking noise.NOTE: A Fast Check Tester is necessary to perform some of the testing.
- If no suction after retest, run engine until cooling fan is on. Disconnect vacuum hose from inlet manifold and check for vacuum at manifold pipe. If no vacuum present, check for blockage in pipe. If pipe is okay, check vacuum hose for defect. If no defect is present, attach Fast Check Tester and check system.
