Ignition Timing
- Check or adjust ignition timing with engine at normal operating temperature. Disconnect distributor vacuum hoses and plug. Place transmission in Neutral (man. trans.) or in "P" or "N" (auto. trans.). Turn lights and accessories off and run engine at idle speed.
- On Turbo vehicles, disconnect Black connector (8-pole connector) between distributor and knock control unit.
- On all vehicles, connect timing light to No. 1 cylinder spark plug and check timing. See Fig 2 . If timing is incorrect, loosen distributor mounting bolt and adjust timing. Tighten distributor mounting bolt and recheck timing.
NOTE:
Ignition timing marks on 1.6L engines are visible through opening in flywheel cover on right side of engine. Ignition timing marks on all other engines are located on lower left front of engine.
