Abs Bleeding Procedures

  1. Disconnect negative battery terminal. Using conventional manual brake bleeding method (using tubing and bottle, with foot pressure on brake pedal), bleed RF/LR primary air bleeder on hydraulic control unit. See Fig 1 . Bleed until air bubbles stop appearing from bleeder tubing in fluid bottle. Close bleeder screw.
  2. To bleed RF/LR secondary air bleeder, replace cone screw with proper bleeder screw. See Fig 1 . Attach tubing to bleeder screw, and open bleeder screw. Unplug both hydraulic control unit harness connectors. See Fig 2 . Have assistant depress and hold pressure on brake pedal.

  3. Connect a jumper wire between positive battery terminal and hydraulic control unit connector terminals No. 11 and 12. See Fig 2 . Momentarily connect another jumper wire from hydraulic control unit connector terminals No. 1 and 2 to negative battery terminal.
  4. DO NOT apply voltage longer than 5 seconds or damage will occur. When brake pedal is down to floor, remove voltage wire, close bleeder screw and slowly release pedal. Check fluid in reservoir.
  5. Repeat steps 3)-4) until air bubbles stop appearing from bleeder tubing in fluid bottle. After bleeding RF/LR secondary air bleeder, remove bleeder screw, and reinstall cone screw. See Fig 1 .
  6. Using conventional manual brake bleeding method, bleed RF caliper, LR caliper and LF/RR primary air bleeder on hydraulic unit in order. Bleed each line until air bubbles stop appearing from bleeder tubing in fluid bottle. Close bleeder screw.
  7. To bleed LF/RR secondary air bleeder, remove cone screw, and install bleeder screw. See Fig 1 . Attach tubing to bleeder screw, and open bleeder screw. Unplug both hydraulic control unit harness connectors. See Fig 2 . Have assistant depress and hold pressure on brake pedal.
  8. Repeat steps 3)-4) until air bubbles stop appearing from bleeder tubing in fluid bottle. After bleeding LF/RR secondary air bleeder, remove bleeder screw, and reinstall cone screw. See Fig 1 .
  9. Using conventional manual brake bleeding method, bleed LF caliper and then RR caliper. Bleed each caliper until air bubbles stop appearing from bleeder tubing in fluid bottle. Close bleeder screw. ABS system bleeding is completed.
