Lock Test
- Using starter bench tester, connect test equipment. Lock starter armature. Engage tester momentarily, noting starter torque, current draw and voltage drop.
- Voltage should not drop greater than 5 volts from voltage at beginning of test. Current draw should be less than 400 amps. Starter should produce minimum torque of 6.5 ft. lbs. (9 N.m).
- Low current draw and no torque during lock test may be caused by excessive resistance between brushes and commutator. Normal current draw, but low torque speed, may be caused by a shorted commutator and/or poor insulation.
