Cranking Test

  1. Ensure vehicle has fully charged battery. Connect voltmeter to battery terminals and ammeter to battery cables. Disable ignition system to prevent spark plugs from firing.
  2. Crank engine for less than 30 seconds. While cranking engine, note and record voltage drop and current draw. If average voltage drop and current draw are not as specified, check battery cables and connections. See LOAD TEST in STARTER SPECIFICATIONS  table. If cables and connections are okay, repair or replace starter.
