Abs/TCS Bleeding Procedure

  1. Locate Data Link Connector (DLC) below center of instrument panel. See Fig 1 . Connect diagnostic terminal to terminal No. 4 of DTC. Depress TCS OFF switch (keep switch depressed even after engine is started) and start engine. After ABS and TCS warning lights go off, depress brake pedal within .5 second. After TCS operating indictor indicates TCS is on, release TCS OFF switch and brake pedal. See Fig 2 .
  2. Using conventional manual brake bleeding method (using vinyl tubing and container, with foot pressure on brake pedal). Attach one end of tubing to right front brake caliper bleeder screw and place other end into container. Have assistant depress and hold pressure on brake pedal. Open bleeder screw 1-2 seconds and then close bleeder screw.
  3. Release pressure on brake pedal and wait 3-4 seconds. Repeat procedure until air has been bled from system. Open right front brake caliper bleeder screw. Depress TCS OFF switch for 20 seconds or more. Ensure all air has been bled from system. Close bleeder screw.
  4. Perform steps 2) and 3) for left front brake caliper. Repeat step 2) for both front calipers. Perform steps 2) and 3) for rear calipers. Repeat step 2) for both rear calipers.
  5. Depress TCS OFF switch while depressing brake pedal. Ensure ABS warning light is on. This step bleeds hydraulic unit circuit for RF and LR calipers. Repeatedly depress and release brake pedal 10 times while depressing TCS OFF switch. If there is any air in system, it will be released into brake fluid reservoir.
  6. Depress TCS OFF switch while depressing brake pedal. Ensure TCS warning light is on. This step bleeds hydraulic unit circuit for LF and RR calipers. Repeatedly depress and release brake pedal 10 times while depressing TCS OFF switch. If there is any air in system, it will be released into brake fluid reservoir.
  7. When air has been removed from system, depress brake pedal using about 110 lbs. (50 kg) force and hold it for about 20 seconds. Check pedal for any unusual movement. Turn ignition off. Install wheels. Test drive car for 1-2 miles, ensuring proper operation of brakes.
