Sub Frame: Removal

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, perform the brake maintenance mode. Ref. to PARKING BRAKE>PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM>OPERATION>BRAKE MAINTENANCE MODE .
    NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "Help" of application.
  3. Disconnect the ground cable from battery. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY>GROUND TERMINAL REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION .
  4. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  5. Remove the protector tank. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO)>FUEL TANK PROTECTOR>REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the rear exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO)>REAR EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the propeller shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>PROPELLER SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the trailing link assembly rear. Ref. to REAR SUSPENSION>TRAILING LINK>REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the rear lateral link assembly front. Ref. to REAR SUSPENSION>REAR LATERAL LINK (FRONT)>REMOVAL .
  10. Remove the rear lateral link assembly rear. Ref. to REAR SUSPENSION>REAR LATERAL LINK (REAR)>REMOVAL .
  11. Disconnect the stabilizer link rear (lower part). Ref. to REAR SUSPENSION>STABILIZER>REMOVAL>STABILIZER .
  12. Remove the clip and bolt on the harness clamp, and remove the sensor sub assembly rear.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage the sensor.
    • Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness.

  13. Remove the disc brake assembly rear. Ref. to BRAKE>REAR DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLY>REMOVAL .
  14. Disconnect the adapter cord EPB.
    1. Remove the clamp (a).
    2. Remove the clamp (b).

  15. Remove the rear drive shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>REAR DRIVE SHAFT>REMOVAL .
  16. Remove the rear axle housing.

  17. Remove the rear differential. Ref. to DIFFERENTIALS>REAR DIFFERENTIAL (VA-TYPE)>REMOVAL .
  18. Remove the sub frame assembly rear.
    1. Support the sub frame assembly rear using a transmission jack.
      CAUTION: The sub frame assembly rear is heavy. Make sure that it is firmly supported so that it is level.
    2. Remove the bolts, and remove the left and right support sub frame fronts.
    3. Remove the sub frame assembly rear.
    CAUTION: While checking there is no dragging of harness and wire, lower it slowly with a transmission jack.

  19. Remove the arm assembly rear upper from the sub frame assembly rear.
