Ignition Timing: Inspection

CAUTION: After warming-up, engine becomes very hot. Be careful not to burn yourself at measurement.
  1. Before checking the ignition timing, check the following item:
    1. Check the air cleaner element is free from clogging, spark plugs are in good condition, and hoses are connected properly.
    2. Check the malfunction indicator light does not illuminate.
  2. Navigate to the service mode (for exhaust gas measurement). (Hybrid model) Ref. to P-HEV HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>WORK SUPPORT>OPERATION>SERVICE MODE .
    NOTE: If it is necessary to run the engine for 10 minutes or more, fasten the driver's seat belt.
  3. Warm up the engine.
  4. Read the ignition timing using Subaru Select Monitor.

    2.0 L gasoline engine model: 

    Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DO 2.0 (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>DATA MONITOR>OPERATION .

    2.5 L model: 

    Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DO 2.5)>DATA MONITOR>OPERATION .

    Hybrid model: 

    Ref. to ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS) (H4DO(HEV))>DATA MONITOR>OPERATION .

    NOTE: If the ignition timing is out of standard, refer to the basic diagnostic procedure of "ENGINE (DIAGNOSTICS)".

    2.0 L gasoline engine model:

    2.5 L model:
