Brake Fluid: Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Subaru WRX. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  • Do not let brake fluid come into contact with the painted surface of the vehicle. Wash away with water immediately and wipe off if it is spilled by accident.
  • Do not mix different kinds of brake fluid.
  • Do not allow water or foreign matter to enter the reservoir tank.
  • Always use new brake fluid when replacing or refilling the brake fluid.
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Check the brake fluid for discoloration.
  3. Check that the amount of brake fluid is between the lines of "MIN" and "MAX" from the front view or from the forward right and left within 90°.
    CAUTION:
    • Always check the level using the specified direction because there is a partition in the reservoir tank.
    • When using a tool such as a dropper to adjust the fluid amount, do not use one that has been utilized for deteriorated brake fluid or other liquids.

Doing so may cause the sealing parts or brake fluid to deteriorate, resulting in a malfunction.

  4. If the brake fluid level is close to "MIN", check the brake pipe or brake hose for any leak first. Then, check that the brake fluid level is reduced due to brake pad wear.
  5. If the fluid is extremely discolored or the brake fluid level is less than the specified value after inspection, replenish or replace with the new fluid.
