Line Pressure Test: Inspection

WARNING: During the line pressure test, confirm safety in the vicinity and make sure no person is around the vehicle.
CAUTION: Vehicle components are extremely hot immediately after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
NOTE:
  • When there is an open or short circuit in the pressure solenoid D (SLT) system, the line pressure reaches the maximum.
  • Always perform the inspection after the engine check and adjustment.
  • Perform with the select mode switch in normal mode.
  1. Check the engine oil level. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DO)>ENGINE OIL>INSPECTION .
  2. Check the engine coolant level. Ref. to COOLING (H4DO)>ENGINE COOLANT>INSPECTION .
  3. Remove the center exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the test plug (line pressure), and install ST1, ST2 and ST3.
    CAUTION:
    • Because the ATF flows out, install the ST quickly.
    • Be careful when setting the tool so that the ST does not touch the exhaust pipe.
    NOTE:
    • Use the ST3 with genuine O-ring (part No. 17006AA000) attached.
    • Prepare the container for draining of engine oil.

    Preparation tool:

ST1: OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ASSY (498575400)

ST2: OIL PRESSURE ADAPTER SET (498897700)

ST3: OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ADAPTER (18681AA040)

  5. Install the center exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
  6. Set the gauge so that it can be seen from the driver's seat.
  7. Apply the parking brake.
  8. Place wheel chocks at the front and rear of all wheels.
  9. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor.
  10. Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Engine OFF)
  11. Display [Coolant Temp.].
  12. Turn off all systems causing an electrical load, such as headlights, A/C and rear defogger.
  13. Start the engine.
  14. Turn OFF the pre-collision brake function.
  15. Turn the VSC (VDC) function OFF.
  16. Warm up until [Coolant Temp.] reaches 60 - 90°C (140 - 194°F).
  17. Shift the select lever to "D range".
  18. While depressing the brake pedal, record the line pressure with the engine idling.

    Specification:

    350 - 430 kPa (3.6 - 4.4 kgf/cm2 , 51 - 62 psi)

  19. Depress the accelerator pedal to the full while fully depressing the brake pedal with your left foot.
CAUTION: Do not perform this procedure for 5 seconds or more at a time.
  20. When the engine speed stabilizes, quickly record the line pressure and release the accelerator pedal.

    Specification:

    1230 - 1400 kPa (12.5 - 14.3 kgf/cm2 , 178 - 203 psi)

  21. Shift the select lever to "N range", and idle the engine for one minute or more.
  22. Shift the select lever to "R range" and perform the line pressure test in the same manner.

    Specification:

    At idling:

    760 - 950 kPa (7.7 - 9.7 kgf/cm2 , 110 - 138 psi)

    At stalling:

    1410 - 1630 kPa (14.4 - 16.6 kgf/cm2 , 204 - 236 psi)

  23. Remove the center exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>REMOVAL .
  24. Remove the STs (OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ASSY, OIL PRESSURE ADAPTER SET and OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ADAPTER), and then install the test plug (line pressure) using a new O-ring.
CAUTION: Because the ATF will flow out, install the test plug (line pressure) quickly.
NOTE: Apply ATF to the O-ring.

    Tightening torque:

    7.4 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

  25. Install the center exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO)>CENTER EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
  26. Check the ATF level. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID>INSPECTION>ADJUST ATF LEVEL .
