Choke Valve

  1. Adjust fast idle cam when engine is cold. Measure clearance between primary throttle valve and wall of the throttle bore with choke valve closed. Clearance should be .004-.023" (.1-.6 mm) at 77° F (25° C).
  2. If not within specification, check choke mechanism and linkage for smooth operation. If no defects are found, lubricate choke assembly and recheck clearance. If choke valve is still not within specification, remove carburetor and disconnect idle-up actuator. See Figure .
  3. Rotate fast idle cam counterclockwise and lock cam to bracket by inserting pin through hole in cam. Using pliers, bend choke lever to make necessary adjustment. Bend choke lever up to close choke valve and down to open choke valve.
  4. Install carburetor and warm engine to operating temperature. Recheck choke valve. If choke valve does not open completely, replace choke vacuum piston assembly or linkage.
