EGR System - Diesel: Description
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is used to reduce the formation of NOx emissions by reducing combustion temperature. This is accomplished by recycling a metered amount of exhaust gas back into the intake system.
This system operates from an engine driven vacuum pump. The following components are used in the system: Bi-metallic vacuum switching valve (BVSV), exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR), vacuum control valve (VCV), and vacuum regulating valve (VRV).
