Vacuum Switch Check: Tercel

  1. Disconnect vacuum switch electrical connector and vacuum hose. See Figure & 22. Using an ohmmeter, connect ohmmeter leads between vacuum switch terminals. Continuity should not be present.
  2. Apply 2.76 in. Hg of vacuum or less to vacuum switch No. 1. Ohmmeter should indicate continuity. On California models, 2 vacuum switches are used. Repeat testing procedure on vacuum switch No. 2, except on M/T models, apply 17.13 in. Hg or more and on A/T models, apply 14.37 in. Hg or more. If vacuum switch does not function as described, replace switch.
