No Load Test
Connect ammeter in series with starter motor and 12-volt battery and observe readings. See Fig 1. Starter should spin smoothly with the pinion out. Ensure starter draw is less than 90 amps. Battery voltage should be 11.5 volts or more. Replace starter if not within specification.
