Abs Control Relay (1997)
NOTE:
On 1997 Paseo, connector "A" is identified as A6 in wiring diagram, connector "B" is identified as A7 in wiring diagram. On 1997 Tercel, connector "A" is identified as A7 in wiring diagram, connector "B" is identified as A6 in wiring diagram. Testing is identical.
- Remove ABS control relay. See Figure. Using a DVOM, check continuity at specified terminals. Continuity should exist between connector "A" terminal No. 1 and connector "B" terminal No. 3 (80 ohms). Continuity should exist between connector "A" terminals No. 5 and 6. Continuity should not exist between connector "A" terminals No. 2 and 5. See Fig 1. If continuity is not as specified, replace control relay.
- Using fused jumper wire, connect positive battery terminal to connector "A" terminal No. 1. Connect negative battery terminal to connector "A" terminal No. 3. Continuity should exist between connector "A" terminals No. 2 and 5. Continuity should not exist between connector "A" terminals No. 5 and 6. If continuity is not as specified, replace control relay. Disconnect battery from relay.
- Continuity should exist between connector "B" terminals No. 3 and 4 (62 ohms). Continuity should not exist between connector "B" terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity is not as specified, replace control relay.
- Using ohmmeter capable of testing diodes, check for continuity between connector "B" terminals No. 4 (+) and 5 (-). Continuity should exist. Check for continuity between connector "B" terminals No. 5 (+) and 4 (-). Continuity should not exist. If continuity is not as specified, actuator diode is defective. Repair or replace relay.
- Using fused jumper wire, connect positive battery terminal to connector "A" terminal No. 1. Connect negative battery terminal to connector "B" terminal No. 3. Continuity should exist between connector "A" terminals No. 2 and 5. Continuity should not exist between connector "A" terminals No. 5 and 6. If continuity is not as specified, replace control relay.
