Basic Function Test

  1. Put vehicle in initialized condition by removing key from ignition lock cylinder, close and lock all doors, and ensure open door warning light is not on. Depress LOCK or UNLOCK button on remote transmitter 3 times or more and check LOCK/UNLOCK operation. Stand about 3 feet from driver's outside door handle, point remote transmitter toward vehicle and depress any button for one-second. If doors do not lock and unlock normally, go to next step. If doors lock and unlock normally, system is okay at this time.
  2. Replace remote transmitter battery and repeat step  1. If doors do not lock and unlock normally, go to next step. If doors lock and unlock normally, system is okay at this time.
  3. Perform on-board diagnostic tests. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If taillights flash as specified in diagnostic tests, go to next step. If taillights do not flash, go to step  6.
  4. For 20 seconds, depress buttons on remote transmitter while walking around vehicle within 3 feet. If remote transmitter does not operate properly, go to next step. If taillights flash, buzzer chirps or door locks operate while depressing all buttons on remote transmitter, communication is good between remote transmitter and wireless door lock control receiver. Any other problems found exist in body control system. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  5. Repeat previous test with another remote transmitter registered for same vehicle. If second remote transmitter operates correctly, replace first remote transmitter. If second remote transmitter does not operate correctly, replace wireless door lock control receiver. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK ECU  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Operate 2 remote transmitters registered for same vehicle. If taillights flash when buttons are depressed on both remote transmitters or do not flash at all, go to next step. If taillights flash when each button is depressed on only one of the remote transmitters, replace faulty remote transmitter.
  7. Disconnect door lock control receiver harness connector and integration relay 25-pin harness connector I18. Check continuity of Violet wire (Camry) or Brown/Black wire (Solara) between terminal No. 2 of wireless door lock control receiver harness connector and terminal No. 8 of integration relay 25-pin harness connector I18. See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Violet wire or Brown/Black wire.
  8. Check continuity of Pink wire (Camry) or Black wire (Solara) between terminal No. 4 of wireless door lock control receiver harness connector and terminal No. 22 of integration relay 25-pin harness connector I18. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair Pink wire or Black wire.
  9. Connect door lock control receiver harness connector and integration relay 25-pin harness connector. Measure voltage (backprobe) of Pink wire (Camry) or Black wire (Solara) between ground and terminal No. 4 of wireless door lock control receiver harness connector while depressing any button on remote transmitter. See Fig 1. If 6-7 volts is present, go to next step. If 6-7 volts is not present, repair open in Pink wire or Black wire between wireless door lock control receiver and terminal No. 22 of integration relay 25-pin harness connector I18. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  10. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and terminal No. 7 (Red wire) of wireless door lock control receiver. If 10-14 volts is present, replace wireless door lock control receiver. If 10-14 volts are not present, go to next step.
  11. Check DOME (7.5-amp) fuse in engine compartment fuse block No. 2. If DOME fuse is okay, go to next step. If DOME fuse is not okay, replace DOME fuse. If DOME fuse fails again, repair short to ground in circuits connected to DOME fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  12. Remove DOME fuse. Check continuity of Red wire between DOME fuse and terminal No. 7 of wireless door lock control receiver. If continuity exists, reinstall DOME fuse and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Red wire and reinstall DOME fuse.
  13. Check continuity of White/Black wire between terminal No. 1 of wireless door lock control receiver and ground at driver's side kick panel. If continuity is present, replace wireless door lock control receiver. If continuity is not present, repair open circuit in White/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
