Without Using TOYOTA Hand-held Tester

  1. Ensure battery voltage is about 12 volts. Turn ignition on. ABS warning light should come on, then go out after about 3 seconds. If ABS warning light does not come on, check appropriate fuse, bulb, and wiring harness. See ABS WARNING LIGHT  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition OFF. Connect DLC3 terminals Ts and CG. See Figure. Start engine. Verify ABS light flashes 4 times per second. If ABS light does not operate as specified, go to ABS WARNING LIGHT  under SYSTEM TESTS. If ABS light does operate as specified, go to next step.
  3. Drive vehicle straight ahead at a speed greater than 28 MPH for several seconds. Stop vehicle. Connect jumper between DLC3 terminals Tc and CG. See Figure. If no malfunction is detected, ABS light blinks 2 times a second. If a malfunction is detected, ABS light will begin to flash a 2-digit DTC. First series of flashes indicates first digit of DTC. After a 1.5 second pause, second series of flashes indicates second digit of DTC.
  4. If 2 or more DTCs are stored, there will be a 2.5-second pause between each DTC. After all DTCs are flashed, there will be a 4-second pause, then all DTCs will repeat.
  5. Record DTCs. Turn ignition off. Check appropriate speed sensor circuit, speed sensor installation and speed sensor rotor. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Repair as necessary. Remove jumper wires from DLC. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DTCS .
