On-Vehicle Inspection
- CHECK THROTTLE BODY COVER
- INSPECT SYSTEM OPERATION
- Inspect the throttle control motor for operating sound.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- When depressing the accelerator pedal, check the running sound of the motor. Also, check that there is no friction sound.
If operation is not as specified, check the throttle control motor (see step 3), wiring and ECM.
- Inspect the accelerator pedal position sensor.
- Connect a intelligent tester to the Controller Area Network Vehicle Interface Module (CAN VIM). Then connect the CAN VIM to the Date Link Connector 3 (DLC3).
- Check that the MIL does not light up.
- When turning the accelerator pedal position sensor lever to the full-open position, check that the throttle valve opening percentage (THROTTLE POS) of the CURRENT DATA shown the standard value.

Standard throttle valve opening percentage: 60% or more
If operation is not as specified, check that the accelerator pedal position sensor (See DTC P2120 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "D" CIRCUIT; DTC P2122 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "D" CIRCUIT LOW INPUT; DTC P2123 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "D" CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT; DTC P2125 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "E" CIRCUIT; DTC P2127 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "E" CIRCUIT LOW INPUT; DTC P2128 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "E" CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT; DTC P2138 THROTTLE / PEDAL POSITION SENSOR / SWITCH "D" / "E" VOLTAGE CORRELATION ), wiring and ECM.
If not using a intelligent tester, measure the voltage between terminals (VTA1-E2, VTA2-E2) of the ECM connector (See DTC P0116 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT RANGE / PERFORMANCE PROBLEM ).
- Inspect the idle speed.
- Start the engine and check that the MIL does not light up.
- Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
- Turn the A/C compressor ON to OFF, and check the idle speed.
Idle speed (Transmission in neutral): 700 +- 50 rpm
NOTE: Perform inspection without an electrical load.
- After checking the above (a) to (c), perform the driving test and check that there is no sense of incongruity.
- Inspect the throttle control motor for operating sound.
- INSPECT THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR
- Disconnect the throttle control motor connector.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the motor resistance between terminals M+ and M-.
Motor resistance: 0.3 to 100 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the throttle body assembly (see INSTALLATION ).
- Reconnect the throttle control motor connector.
- INSPECT THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
- Inspect throttle position sensor (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ). If necessary, replace the throttle body assembly (See REMOVAL ).
- REINSTALL THROTTLE BODY COVER
