Knock Sensor: Removal

  1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    HINT:

    See PRECAUTION .

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  3. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  11. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (for Engine)  (See REPLACEMENT )
  12. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  14. SEPARATE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE AIR CLEANER BRACKET  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK  (See REMOVAL )
  19. DISCONNECT FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 1 EFI fuel pipe clamp.
    2. Pinch the quick connector and then pull out the No. 1 fuel pipe.
      NOTE:
      • Remove dirt or foreign objects on the quick connector before disconnecting the connector.
      • Do not allow any scratches or foreign objects on the connecting surfaces when disconnecting as the fuel hose connector has the O-ring that seals the pipe.
      • Perform this work by hand. Do not use any tools.
      • Do not forcibly bend, twist or turn the nylon tube.
      • Protect the connecting surfaces by covering them with a vinyl bag after disconnecting the pipe.
      • If the quick connector and pipe are stuck, push and pull to release them.

  20. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the inlet heater water hose.

  21. DISCONNECT INLET RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the inlet radiator hose.

  22. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the ground cable.

    2. Disconnect the 6 fuel injector connectors.

    3. In order to remove the intake manifold, using several steps, remove the 9 bolts, 2 washers and 2 nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

  23. REMOVE OUTLET WATER  (See REMOVAL )
  24. REMOVE KNOCK CONTROL SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the 2 knock sensor connectors.
    2. Remove the 2 nuts, and then remove the 2 knock sensors.
