Windshield Glass: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
  2. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER MAIN SEAL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER MAIN SEAL RH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUBASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING LH 
    1. Remove the windshield outside moulding.
      1. Put protective tape around the moulding.
      2. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the moulding.
        NOTE:
        • When removing the windshield outside moulding, be careful not to damage the roof drip side finish moulding clip labeled A in the illustration.
        • If a roof drip side finish moulding clip is damaged or becomes detached from the vehicle, replace it with a new one.

  9. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

  10. REMOVE NO. 4 WINDSHIELD MOULDING PAD 
    1. Remove the 4 No. 4 windshield moulding pads.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the 4 pads on the other side.

  11. REMOVE NO. 3 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP

    HINT:

    Perform the following procedures if replacing any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip(s).

    1. Put a 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit into a drill.
    2. Wind tape around the drill bit approximately 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the tip of the drill.

      HINT:

      Tape the 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit to prevent the drill bit from going too deep.

    3. Lightly press the drill against the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip(s), drill off the flanges of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip(s), and remove the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip(s).
      NOTE:
      • Pressing the drill too firmly will cause the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip to turn and result in the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip not being drilled through.
      • Do not pry the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips with the drill, because this may cause damage to the installation holes of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips or the drill bit.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful of the drilled No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips as they may become hot.

    4. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip fragments and shavings from the drilled areas.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the clip(s) on the other side.

  12. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOULDING CLIP 

    HINT:

    Perform the following procedures if replacing any roof drip side finish moulding clips.

    1. Remove the roof drip side finish moulding clips.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the clip on the other side.

  23. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR STAY HOLDER COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  24. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  25. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING 
    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      HINT:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step. Refer to the following procedures (See REMOVAL ).

  26. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING 
    1. Using a knife, cut off the moulding as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
    2. Pull the shaded area shown in the illustration by hand to remove the windshield outside moulding.

      HINT:

      Make a partial cut in the moulding. Then pull and remove it by hand.

  27. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS 
    1. Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.
    2. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.
    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.
      NOTE:
      • When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle paint or interior/exterior ornaments.
      • To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.

    4. Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.
      NOTE: Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.
    5. w/Windshield Deicer System:

      Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.

    6. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the glass.
    7. Disconnect the stoppers.
    8. Using suction cups, remove the glass.

  28. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 stoppers.
  29. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS ADHESIVE DAM 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the dam.
  30. REMOVE FRONT INNER WINDOW MOULDING COVER LH 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the cover.
  31. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.
    2. Clean the outer circumference of the glass with non-residue solvent.
      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Be careful not to damage the glass.
      • Even if using new glass, clean the glass with non-residue solvent.

  32. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER 
    1. Remove the 2 windshield glass stoppers.
  33. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.
        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

    2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

      HINT:

      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
