Vacuum Retard Test
- Connect tachometer and timing/advance light to engine. Connect Vacuum Advance Tester (VAG 1368 ) according to manufacturer's instructions. Remove both plugs from idle stabilizer and connect together.
- Start and run engine at 900 RPM. Disconnect vacuum advance hose from unit and check ignition timing. If necessary, adjust to 5° ATDC. Disconnect vacuum retard hose from unit.
- Bring timing mark back to pointer by using dial on timing light and read vacuum retard. Retard should be 9-11°. After testing, reconnect idle stabilizer plugs. Reconnect vacuum hoses, adjust base ignition timing and idle speed.
