Vacuum Retard Test

  1. Connect tachometer and timing/advance light to engine. Connect Vacuum Advance Tester (VAG 1368 ) according to manufacturer's instructions. Remove both plugs from idle stabilizer and connect together.
  2. Start and run engine at 900 RPM. Disconnect vacuum advance hose from unit and check ignition timing. If necessary, adjust to 5° ATDC. Disconnect vacuum retard hose from unit.
  3. Bring timing mark back to pointer by using dial on timing light and read vacuum retard. Retard should be 9-11°. After testing, reconnect idle stabilizer plugs. Reconnect vacuum hoses, adjust base ignition timing and idle speed.
