Injection Pump Timing
- Remove rear gear cover. Disconnect cold-start device. Loosen forward screw on cold-start device. Loosen forward screw on cold-start device control lever. DO NOT loosen screw closest to timing belt. Press lever back toward stop.
- Turn engine to align mark on injection pump gear with mark on pump bracket. "O" mark on flywheel should be centered at timing mark window (No. 1-Cyl. TDC).
- Remove plug from rear of pump. Install dial indicator adapter (5194). Set dial indicator to 0-.076" (0-1.9 mm) range. Set dial indicator to pre-load to .08" (2.0 mm).
- Slowly turn engine counterclockwise until lowest reading on dial indicator is observed. Set dial indicator to zero.
- Slowly turn engine clockwise until "O" mark on flywheel is centered at timing mark window. Dial indicator should read within the checking range.NOTE: If engine is turned past timing mark, turn engine back 1/4 turn. Turn engine clockwise until "O" mark on flywheel is centered at timing mark window.
- If dial indicator setting is outside checking range, loose pump bolts and turn pump until dial indicator shows the correct setting. Retighten pump bolts.
- Crank engine 2 complete revolutions and recheck injection pump timing. Readjust if necessary. Remove dial indicator and adapter. Reinstall rear plug, timing gear cover and reconnect cold-start device.
