Steering Column: Description
Steering column upper and lower sections are joined by a flange. On frontal impact, flange breaks from upper column. Upper column is carried in 2 ball bearings in jacket tube or bearing housing.
WARNING:
The 740 & 760 Series may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which incorporates an air bag in the center of steering wheel. Caution should be used when working on models with SRS. If air bag is activated, personal injury may result.
CAUTION:
To determine if vehicle is equipped with SRS, note if decal is located on center console which states that model is equipped with SRS. Self-diagnostic light is located on instrument panel. The SRS light will activate when ignition is turned on and goes out when engine is started. Negative battery cable MUST BE disconnected prior to working on vehicle.
