Breakout Box Connection, Engine Control Module (ECM) [2017-2018, B4204T11]
CONNECTING THE BREAKOUT BOX, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)
Special tools:
Special Tool: 951 3052 ECU Adapter
Special Tool: 951 1428 Breakout box
Special Tool: 951 1499 Cable
Avoid touching control module connector pins and associated cable harness connectors. There is risk of electrostatic discharge, which could cause damage in the control module. Discharge yourself and the tools to be used by holding the metal part of the tool and at the same time touch a part of the body immediately before starting to work.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Visually check the connectors to ensure that the male and female terminals are not damaged and that the cables for the female halves are properly connected.
The breakout box is designed for easier reading of:
- control module's output and input signals when the control module is connected.
- leads' and components' resistance, when the control module is disconnected.
Using the breakout box reduces the risk of short-circuiting leads and damaging pins in the connectors.
CONTROL MODULE DISCONNECTION
- Wait 3 minutes after switching off the ignition before starting work on the control module. The system relay must be voltage free before the control module can be removed from the vehicle. If the engine cooling fan runs on after the ignition has been switched off, wait until it stops and then wait for a further 3 minutes.
- Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM). See: Engine Control Module (ECM) .
ADAPTER CONNECTION
- Carefully connect the vehicle wiring harness Special Tool: 951 3052 ECU Adapter and lock the connectors in position by pressing in the catches fully.
CONNECTING THE BREAKOUT BOX
- Connect the breakout box Special Tool: 951 1428 Breakout box to the adapter via wiring harness Special Tool: 951 1499 Cable.
- Carefully connect the adapter to the Engine Control Module (ECM) and lock the adapter in position by pressing in the catches fully.
REMOVING THE ADAPTER AND CONNECTOR
- Wait 3 minutes after the ignition has been switched off. The main relay must be voltage free before the control module can be removed from the vehicle. If the engine cooling fan runs on after the ignition has been switched off, wait until it stops and then wait for a further 3 minutes.
- Carefully detach the Engine Control Module (ECM) from the adapter wiring harness.
- Carefully detach the adapter from the vehicle wiring harness.
CONTROL MODULE CONNECTION
- Check that no pins or sockets are damaged on the connector.
- Install the Engine Control Module (ECM). See: Engine Control Module (ECM)
