Code 1-2, Pump Motor Circuit

  1. Check ABS fuses. Remove and check pump motor relay. See RELAY TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace relay if it is defective. If relay is okay, use a jumper wire to connect terminals No. 3 and 8 of pump motor relay connector together. If pump motor does not run, go to next step. If pump motor runs, go to step  5 .
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between terminal No. 8 of pump motor relay connector and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, relay/fuse box connections are bad or relay/fuse box is defective. Repair or replace as necessary.
  3. Disconnect 2-pin connector from pump motor. Measure voltage between White/Blue wire and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in White/Blue wire.
  4. Measure voltage between White/Blue wire and Black wire of pump motor connector. If battery voltage is present, pump motor is defective. If battery voltage is not present, check ground connection. If ground connection is okay, repair open in Black wire.
  5. Remove ABS unit 7.5-amp fuse from underhood relay/fuse box. With ignition on, measure voltage between fuse holder No. 5 terminal and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in White/Red wire between ABS unit fuse holder and control unit.
  6. Install ABS unit 7.5-amp fuse back into underhood relay/fuse box. Measure voltage between pump relay connector terminal No. 3 and ground. See Figure , Figure and Figure . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, relay/fuse box connections are bad or relay/fuse box is defective. Repair or replace as necessary.
  7. Measure voltage between terminal No. 4 of pump motor relay connector and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between No. 3 fuse (15-amp), located in underdash fuse box, and pump motor relay connector.
  8. Reinstall pump motor relay. Disconnect 18-pin connector from control unit. Measure voltage between Yellow/Red wire and ground. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Yellow/Red wire. If battery voltage is present, check for loose control unit connectors. If connectors are okay, install a known good control unit and retest.
