Ignition Timing

IGNITION TIMING (Degrees BTDC @ RPM)

Application (1) M/T (2) A/T
Vigor 13-17 @ 650-750 13-17 @ 650-750
(1) Manual transmission in Neutral.
(2) Automatic transmission in Neutral or Park.
  1. Operate engine until cooling fan comes on. Locate ignition timing adjusting connector under right side of dash or at center console. Connect terminals of connector using a jumper wire. See Fig 1 .
  2. Connect timing light. With engine at idle, Red mark on crankshaft pulley should align with pointer. See Fig 2 . If Red mark and pointer are not aligned, adjust timing. See IGNITION TIMING  table.
  3. Adjust ignition timing by turning adjusting screw on ignition timing adjuster. See Fig 3 . Remove control box cover. Using a 3/16" drill bit, drill out 2 rivets from adjuster. Remove cover.
  4. Turn adjusting screw counterclockwise to retard timing or clockwise to advance timing. After adjustment, install cover to ignition timing adjuster using new rivets. Remove jumper wire from ignition timing adjusting connector.
