Drive Belt Inspection

NOTE: DO NOT install drive belt in opposite direction. Damage to belt may occur.
  1. There are 2 different versions of drive belts used on A6 models. To identify version of drive belt used, see Fig 2 and Fig 3 .

  2. If vehicle has version "B", go to step 4). On version "A", remove drive belt guard. Using a 15-mm wrench, rotate tensioner clockwise to loosen belt tensioner. Secure belt tensioner using Drift (3204). See Fig 4 .
  3. Remove drive belt. Ensure belt has no splits, cracks or other damage. Replace drive belt if necessary. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install drive belt onto tensioning pulley last. Using a 15-mm wrench, hold tensioner and remove drift. Allow tensioner to move against drive belt. Install drive belt guard.
  4. Remove drive belt guard. Using a 10-mm wrench, rotate tensioner clockwise to loosen belt tensioner. Secure belt tensioner using Drift (3204). See Fig 5 .
  5. Remove drive belt. Ensure belt has no splits, cracks or other damage. Replace drive belt if necessary. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install drive belt onto tensioning pulley last. Using a 10-mm wrench, hold tensioner and remove drift. Allow tensioner to move against drive belt. Install drive belt guard.
