Ignition Timing

  1. Set automatic transmission lever to Park position, or manual transmission lever to Neutral position. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Connect timing light. Turn off all accessories.
  2. Connect jumper wire between Self-Test Input (STI) terminal and ground. See Fig 1 . If timing marks on crankshaft pulley and index pointer are not aligned, go to next step. If timing is as specified, no adjustment is required.
  3. Loosen distributor bolts. Rotate distributor until timing marks are aligned. Tighten bolts to 14-18 ft. lbs. (19-25 N.m). Recheck timing. Readjust as necessary. Disconnect jumper wire and timing light.
