Checking & Adjusting
- Turn ignition off. Remove plug on side of injection pump. See Fig 1 . Install position sensor into plug opening on side of injection pump. Install Position Sensor (007) with guide pin facing up. Tighten position sensor union nut by hand.
- Connect Indicating Instrument (008) to position sensor. Connect indicating instrument clamp to battery positive terminal. Manually turn crankshaft in direction of rotation until indicating instrument light "A" illuminates.
- Continue to manually turn crankshaft until indicating instrument light "B" illuminates. Graduated scale on crankshaft pulley should indicate 14-16 degrees ATDC. If only indicating instrument light "B" illuminates, repeat steps 2) and 3).
- If necessary to adjust injection pump timing, manually rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation until 15 degrees ATDC is indicated for cylinder No. 1. Loosen 4 injection pump mounting bolts. To retard start of delivery, turn adjusting screw on injection pump clockwise. To advance start of delivery, turn adjusting screw on injection pump counterclockwise. See Fig 1 .
- If it was necessary to adjust injection pump timing, repeat steps 2) through 4). If injection pump timing was adjustable to specification or adjustment was not necessary, go to next step. If injection pump adjusting range is inadequate, injection pump must be repositioned. Remove and install injection pump. Repeat procedure.
- Remove position sensor. Install plug into opening on side of injection pump. Tighten plug to 22-26 ft. lbs. (30-35 N.m). Tighten injection pump mounting bolts to 15-18 ft. lbs. (20-25 N.m). Remove indicating instrument. Start engine and check for leaks. Check engine oil level and adjust if necessary.
