Bleeding System

  1. Remove brake fluid reservoir cover. Connect topping-up bottle to topping-up fitting (contained in Bleeder Unit 88 19 096) and clamp topping-up fitting onto brake fluid reservoir. This will avoid the possibility of draining fluid reservoir.
  2. Disconnect ABS ECU connector. Connect Breakout Box (86 11 06) and Breakout Box Lead (86 11 006) to ABS ECU. See Fig 1 . Connect Jumper Harness (86 11 212) to breakout box as shown in illustration. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on and run pump for one minute. Connect jumper harness clamp to ground 20 seconds after pump has started so outlet valves are opened. Disconnect clamp after 20 seconds.
  3. Bleed system using bleeder unit in following sequence: right front, left rear, left front, and right rear. When changing brake fluid, contents of brake fluid reservoir must be siphoned off and each brake caliper must be drained of correct amount of fluid. Front brake calipers should drain approximately 3 ozs. of fluid. Rear brake calipers should drain approximately 1.5 ozs. of fluid.
  4. Disconnect breakout box and reconnect ABS ECU. Turn ignition on and ensure ABS warning light goes out.
