Chain Cover: Removal
NOTE:
When replacing a single part, perform the work with the engine assembly installed to body.
- When working on the vehicleNOTE: When working on the vehicle, perform the following steps also.
- Remove the radiator. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>Radiator>REMOVAL .
- Remove the intake duct No. 1 and intake duct No. 2. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DOC)>Intake Duct>REMOVAL>INTAKE DUCT NO. 1 . Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTIONS) (H4DOTC)>Intake Duct>REMOVAL>INTAKE DUCT NO. 2 .
- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DOTC)>Front Exhaust Pipe>REMOVAL .
- Drain the engine oil. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DOTC)>Engine Oil>REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the V-belts. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DOTC)>V-belt>REMOVAL>V-BELT .
- Remove the V-belt tensioner assembly. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DOTC)>V-belt>REMOVAL>V-BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY .
- Remove the generator. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC)>Generator>REMOVAL .
- Remove the A/C compressor. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>Compressor>REMOVAL .
- Remove the water pump pulley. Ref. to COOLING (H4DOTC)>Water Pump>REMOVAL>WATER PUMP PULLEY .
- Remove the crank pulley. Ref. to MECHANICAL (H4DOTC)>Crank Pulley>REMOVAL .
- Remove the oil pipe (scavenge pump). Ref. to LUBRICATION) (H4DOTC)>Oil Pipe>REMOVAL>OIL PIPE (SCAVENGE PUMP) .
- Remove the engine oil cooler. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DOTC)>Engine Oil Cooler>REMOVAL .
- Remove the front engine oil cooler pipe. Ref. to LUBRICATION (H4DOTC)>Engine Oil Cooler>REMOVAL>FRONT ENGINE OIL COOLER PIPE .
- Disconnect the connector (A), and remove the blow-by diagnosis connector harness from the hook (B).
- Remove the PCV pipe assembly from the intake manifold assembly, and place it aside so that it does not interfere with the work.
- Remove the bolt securing the vacuum hose stay, and place the vacuum hose (A) as well as the vacuum hose stay aside so that they do not interfere with the work.
- Remove the connector (B) and connector (C).
- Remove the clip (D) and clip (E) securing the engine wiring harness, and place it aside so that it does not interfere with work.
- Remove the connector (A) and connector (B).
- Remove the clip (C) securing the engine wiring harness, and place it aside so that it does not interfere with work.
- Pull out the oil level gauge (A), and remove the oil level gauge guide (B).
- Remove the bolts securing the chain cover to the engine.
- Expand the area shown in the figure using a crowbar or a similar tool wrapped in tape for protection, and remove the chain cover from the engine.CAUTION: The chain cover may contact the protrusion (a) of cam sprocket sensor plate and cause damage. When removing the chain cover, move the chain cover horizontally until it cannot contact with the cam sprocket, and then remove it carefully.
- Remove the O-rings from cylinder head RH, cylinder head LH, cylinder block LH and the oil strainer.
- Remove the liquid gasket from the chain cover and engine unit.
