Transmission Assembly: Installation
- When having overhauled the transmission body, refer to "Preparation for overhaul". Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>PREPARATION FOR OVERHAUL>PROCEDURE>AFTER OVERHAUL .
- Attach the ST to the transmission body. (If the transmission body has been replaced)
Preparation tool:
ST: STAND ASSY (18632AA010)
- Attach the rubber sheet to the ST with double sided tape, etc. at the location shown in the figure.CAUTION: Be sure to perform this procedure to prevent the transmission body from being damaged by the ST.
(A) Approx. 45 mm (approx. 1.77 in) (B) Approx. 5 mm (approx. 0.20 in) - Attach the ST to the transmission body with a rope, etc.
- Attach the rubber sheet to the ST with double sided tape, etc. at the location shown in the figure.
- Install the ATF cooler pipe. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>ATF COOLER PIPE AND HOSE>INSTALLATION>ATF COOLER PIPE .
- Install the transmission harness. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>TRANSMISSION HARNESS>INSTALLATION .
- Install the torque converter. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>TORQUE CONVERTER>INSTALLATION .
- Place the transmission body on the transmission jack.
- Install the rear cushion rubber to the transmission body. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>TRANSMISSION REAR CROSSMEMBER AND REAR CUSHION RUBBER .
- Install the transmission body.NOTE:
- Adjust the position and angle of the transmission jack if necessary.
- Temporarily install the bolts and nuts which hold lower side of the transmission.
- Make sure that the knock pins are attached to the engine side.
If the knock pins have been removed or if they are attached to the transmission side, attach them to the engine side.
- Install the transmission rear crossmember. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>TRANSMISSION REAR CROSSMEMBER AND REAR CUSHION RUBBER .
- Remove the transmission jack.
- Remove the ST (STAND ASSY) from the transmission body.
- Install cover to the converter case.
Tightening torque:
7.4 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)
- Install the bolts which hold upper side of transmission.
Tightening torque:
50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
- Tighten the bolts and nuts which hold lower side of the transmission.
Tightening torque:
50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
- Insert a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) thickness gauge between the select lever and the guide plate, and secure it with tape, etc.CAUTION: Set so that the thickness gauge does not come in contact with the section shown in the figure.
- Remove the STs (BOLT, ENGINE HANGER NO. 1, ENGINE HANGER and ADJUSTER) and shackle.
- Install the torque converter to drive plate.
- Remove the ST from converter case.
- Insert the wrench into the crank pulley bolt, and rotate the crank pulley to attach the bolts (6 places) securing the torque converter to the drive plate.NOTE: Be careful not to drop bolts into the converter housing.
Tightening torque:
25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb)
- Fit the plug to service hole.
- Remove the ST from converter case.
- Attach the PCV hose No. 1. Ref. to EMISSION CONTROL (AUX. EMISSION CONTROL DEVICES) (H4DO)>PCV HOSE>INSTALLATION>PCV HOSE NO. 1 .
- Secure the hose inlet assembly to the vehicle with the clip.
- Install the clip securing the bulkhead harness.
- Install the air intake boot. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO)>AIR INTAKE BOOT>INSTALLATION .
- Install the engine rear hanger.
Tightening torque:
21 N.m (2.1 kgf-m, 15.5 ft-lb)
- Connect the ground terminal.
Tightening torque:
13 N.m (1.3 kgf-m, 9.6 ft-lb)
- Connect the connector (A).
- Install the starter. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)>STARTER>INSTALLATION
.NOTE: Do not install the center exhaust pipe.
- Install the propeller shaft. Ref. to PROPELLER SHAFT/DRIVE SHAFT/AXLE>PROPELLER SHAFT>INSTALLATION .
- Install the hanger bracket. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>HANGER BRACKET .
- Install the select lever rod. Ref. to CONTROL SYSTEMS>SELECT LEVER ROD>INSTALLATION
.NOTE: Do not install the console box and the grip.
- Install the oil cooler pipe.
Tightening torque:
21 N.m (2.1 kgf-m, 15.5 ft-lb)
- Connect a new ATF cooler hose.
- ATF cooler pipe sideNOTE:
- Set so that the markings (a) of the ATF cooler hoses are at the center of the hoses when viewed from the direction perpendicular to the ATF cooler pipe bracket surface.
- Set the hose clamps (b) so that the markings (a) of the ATF cooler hoses can be seen.
- ATF cooler (with warmer feature) sideNOTE:
- Set the hose clamps (b) so that the both ends of the markings (a) of the ATF cooler hoses can be seen.
- Align the center of the claws of hose clamp (b) with the marking (a) of ATF cooler hose.
- ATF cooler pipe side
- Set the clamp over the marking (A) as shown in the figure.
- Install the stabilizer front and the sub frame COMPL as a unit. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>STABILIZER>INSTALLATION>STABILIZER .
- Install the brake vacuum hose & pipe. Ref. to BRAKE>BRAKE VACUUM PUMP>INSTALLATION>BRAKE VACUUM HOSE & PIPE .
- Install the collector cover. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO)>COLLECTOR COVER>INSTALLATION .
- Install the console box assembly. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>CONSOLE BOX>INSTALLATION .
- Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
- Perform the [Clear AT learning value] using Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to TRANSMISSION (DIAGNOSTICS)>WORK SUPPORT>LIST>CLEAR THE AT LEARNED INFORMATION .
- Fill ATF. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID>INSPECTION>FILL ATF .
- Check the select lever operation. Ref. to CONTROL SYSTEMS>SELECT LEVER>INSPECTION .
- Perform the road test to make sure there is no fault. Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>ROAD TEST .
