Anti-Theft Test

  1. When the Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection System (TVIP) operates, the TVIP ECU controls the starter cut relay so that the relay should not energize and consequently the starter cannot crank the engine. For wiring diagram, see STARTING/CHARGING in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Check starter cut relay for continuity. See Fig 1. Use an ohmmeter to verify continuity at all times between terminal 1 and 2. Verify continuity between terminals 3 and 4 when battery power is applied across terminal 1 and 2. Remove battery power from terminals 1 and 2, ensure that there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 4 verifying relay operation. If relay operation is other than specified, replace the relay.
  3. Check TVIP ECU:
    1. Disconnect the TVIP ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch position to Start.
    3. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the ECU connector at SRLY 21 and the body ground. See Fig 2. Ensure voltage is 10-14 volts. If other than specified, repair or replace wiring harness. If operation is as specified, diagnosis TVIP ECU. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
